Meet Frieda Yang
A master-storyteller sharing faith, family & resilience through the eyes of a Child
Frieda Yang is a Shanghai-born Chinese-American author and memoirist, best known for her work The East is Red, which chronicles her childhood experiences during the Cultural Revolution in China. The book, based on a true story, reflects her personal journey through one of the most tumultuous periods in Chinese history.
Born into a family that valued music and education, Frieda grew up in a home filled with Western classical music and intellectual pursuits, a stark contrast to the political climate of the time. Her memoir offers a rare glimpse into the life of a child navigating the complex world of revolutionary China, offering a perspective grounded in love, resilience, and hope.
Frieda is deeply grateful for the support of her family and friends, and her book is dedicated to the sacrifices and lives of her parents, George and Mary Young. As a passionate writer, she hopes her memoir will inspire future generations to honor the enduring values of family, sacrifice, and the pursuit of freedom.
When not writing, Frieda enjoys spending time with her husband and four children. She dedicates her work to honoring her parents’ memories and sharing her family’s story with the world.
